Brentford FC has appointed wealth management firm Rothschild as it seeks a £400m valuation for the potential sale of a controlling stake in the Premier League club.
According to Sky News, the sale process is set to begin soon, and interest is expected from US investors. Currently, 11 Premier League clubs have American owners, including four of the so-called ‘big six’.
Last July, Leeds United became the latest English club to receive US investment, when 49ers Enterprises purchased the Yorkshire-based club in a deal that valued at £170m.
Brentford’s incumbent owner Matthew Behnam, who first bought the Bees in 2012, has presided over the club’s rise from EFL League Two to the English top-flight during his 11-year tenure. The team also relocated to the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium in 2020.
The Bees confirmed in December that Benham was seeking fresh investment in the club. The 55-year-old, who first invested in Brentford FC in 2007, reportedly intends to remain as an investor in the club.
