COVENTRY CITY RECEIVES EVICTION NOTICE

Football News Stadia

English Football League (EFL) Championship football club Coventry City has been issued with an eviction notice by the new owners of the Coventry Building Society Arena, according to the BBC.

Former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group took over the stadium last month after buying its three former operating companies. The group now claims that the Championship club has no continuing right to use the ground.

Club officials were informed on Friday they must return keys and access cards and an FA Youth Cup game on Saturday 3rd December was switched to Leamington.

The news comes at a time when the club is awaiting ratification from the EFL for a takeover from businessman Doug King.

The 32,600-capacity stadium had been run by Arena Coventry Limited since it opened in 2005 and until recently was owned by Premiership rugby union team Wasps, which has also since gone into administration. Ashley’s Frasers Group, was named the preferred bidder in November with a £17m bid.

It is currently unclear where Coventry City will head to play its home matches.
