EXTREME E LOCKS IN EY AND PARKS 2025 PARTNER

Extreme E has extended its partnership with EY and lined up a new partner ahead of its transition to Extreme H in 2025.

EY, a British multinational professional services company, will continue as the off-road all-electric motor racing series’ official sustainability partner.

After originally beginning its partnership with Extreme E in 2020, the latest renewal will see EY continue to ‘play a significant role in Extreme E’s operations’ for the upcoming 2024 season.

In its role as officially sustainability partner, which started last year, EY will continue to support the series in ‘minimising its overall footprint’ and ‘creating a positive legacy.’

Last year, EY introduced ‘XE Talks’ and thought leadership panels to race weekends, which brought ‘constructive discussions from industry leaders, NGOs and the Extreme E Scientific Committee.’

As per the agreement, Extreme E and EY will also continue to work together to produce the championship’s annual Sustainability Report, which showcases the championship’s progress towards its environmental goals and commitments to diversity and inclusion.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said, “EY have been imperative in our work towards minimising our impact at race locations and leaving a lasting positive legacy. The new initiatives introduced in 2023 were a brilliant addition to race weekends as they help keep Extreme E at the forefront of sustainable impact.

“We are excited to collaborate once again in 2024 and build on the great progress we have already made together.”

Serge Colle, EY Global Energy & Resources Leader, added, “Electrification in mobility is gathering pace, fuelled by government policy and consumer demand. The EY organisation is delighted to collaborate with Extreme E, who are utilising the power and influence of sport to highlight the impact of climate change and the benefits of electric vehicle adoption.

“This collaboration not only amplifies a commitment to sustainable development but also aligns with the EY vision to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, leveraging innovative solutions and collaborative efforts for a greener future.”

It was also recently revealed that the upcoming 2024 championship will be Extreme E’s last, before it is replaced by Extreme H, a hydrogen-powered version of the series.

Ahead of the transition, Extreme E has announced Symbio as its new official hydrogen fuel cell provider from 2025.

The partnership with the UK-based biotechnology company will ensure ‘the delivery of the technology and expertise needed for the series’ upcoming transition to hydrogen power.’

In Extreme H, Symbio will provide a 75kW hydrogen fuel cell replacing the battery as the principal energy source. Green hydrogen sources will be used to power the Extreme H fuel cells, created using a combination of solar and water.

This technology is already being used behind the scenes in Extreme E, where it provides the energy source to the vehicle’s batteries.

Russell, commented,“We are delighted to announce Symbio as our official hydrogen fuel cell provider ahead of our first season as Extreme H in 2025. This is an exciting transition for the championship, which has pioneered sustainable technology solutions since its inception. We cannot wait to go racing with Symbio next year in the inaugural campaign of Extreme H – the world’s first off-road racing series powered by hydrogen.”
