SPORT INDUSTRY NEXTGEN 2024 OFFICIALLY BEGINS

Sport Industry NextGen 2024 has officially kicked off, with the 30 Leaders from this year’s programme meeting for the first time.

Yesterday (25th January), the NextGen 2024 Leaders gathered at the Sport Industry Group offices in Holborn, London, as the year-long leadership package officially began.

To kick off the year, the group was joined by Sarah Mortiboys, the Non-Executive Director of Access Sport and a specialist in organisational transformation and strategy development across sport.

The workshop saw the 30 Leaders tackle several tasks and exercises that focused on their own ‘super strengths’, also giving the cohort the chance to find out more about each other.

After the 2024 cohort finished their first session, they were given the opportunity to network before heading to 28-50 By Night in central London for this year’s NextGen Alumni Evening.

Attended by a collection of NextGen Leaders from the past nine years of the series and students from the AMOS Sport Business School, the latest organisation to partner with the NextGen programme, the evening was an opportunity to celebrate the programme itself, the connections made over the years, and the successful careers within the sport industry that have followed.

Sport Industry Group Managing Director, Dylan Pugh, also welcomed two NextGen alumni to the stage.

Joe Dale, Head of Commercial at The Wave and 2019 NextGen Leader spoke about the programme’s partnership with The Wave and the alignment of values between the two brands. One of the most recent graduates, 2023’s Darnelle Morgan-Johnson, Programme Manager at Basketball England, also shared her thoughts on her experiences over the past twelve months.

Leadership speaker, executive coach, and Next 2024 Coach Rene Carayol also joined to discuss the importance of inclusivity and diversity and how the NextGen programme continues to represent a culture that tries to challenge and progress the industry forward in this area.

Finally, CEO of Benchmark and the founder of Sport Industry NextGen back in 2016, Nick Keller, spoke on the programme’s journey over the past nine years, stressing how the nurturing of responsible leaders is more important than ever.
