According to new data from viagogo, Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas surpassed the 2018 edition to become the best selling in the global ticket marketplace’s history.
The well-publicised romance between Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift is thought to have driven a bumper 123 million domestic TV audience for the event – eclipsing the last year’s record 115 million US viewers – and demand for tickets was equally high.
Remarkably, 19% of all sales on the ticketing marketplace happened in the final 24 hours before kick-off – including on the game day itself – while Viagogo data also revealed that this was the most internationally attended Super Bowl since 2020.
Reflecting the increasing international appeal of the NFL, buyers from 20 countries are thought to have secured their spot inside Allegiant Stadium to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes lift their second consecutive Vince Lombardi trophy, with the UK ranking fourth for overall sales outside of the US, behind only behind only Mexico, Canada and Australia.
Commenting on the data, Cris Miller, Global Managing Director of viagogo, said, The very first Super Bowl in Vegas saw record-breaking demand in the build-up and a huge surge of activity in the last 24 hours, which made it the best-selling Super Bowl ever on viagogo.
From Taylor and Travis to Mahomes versus Mr Irrelevant, Super Bowl LVIII lived up to the hype and delivered a sporting spectacle like no other.
“As Swift was flying back from Tokyo, thousands of fans were still sourcing their seats, with 19% of all viagogo’s Super Bowl LVIII sales taking place the day before the game – the biggest increase outside of the two days following the Chiefs and 49ers clinched their spots. Those fans who patiently waited were rewarded with a get-in price that was 16% lower on Super Bowl Sunday than the peak 24-hour period on January 30th.”
“The global appeal of the NFL continues to rise, and our data shows that this was also the most international Super Bowl since 2020, with ticket buyers from a total of 20 countries. With a new Madrid fixture for 2025 announced in the build-up, the NFL’s international expansion shows no sign of slowing and in future they can expect travelling fans from even more countries than the 74 where NFL tickets for this season were purchased.
